About the UR Chapter
Girls Who Code (GWC) is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to closing the gender gap in technology and computer science. One of the main missions of GWC is to change the image of what a programmer looks like and does.
GWC has over 8,500 programs worldwide and over 500,000 female and non-binary members as of February 2023. Furthermore, half of GWC’s members come from historically underrepresented groups, including Black, Latinx, or low-income.

Girls Who Code came to the University of Richmond in March 2022. The founding members include Tenzin Tsekyi, Amber Nguyen, Sophie Zhao, Na’Dyah Wynn, Paean Luby, Tolya Evdokimov and Miranda Moe.
Since establishment, UR GWC has hosted events like Hack the Interview (Sept. 2022) , Technica Attendance (Oct. 2022) and CS: What’s Next (Oct. 2022) which consisted of an alumni Q&A featuring speakers from Amazon, IBM, Cornell University, U-Washington and William & Mary. Career development is a main focus for GWC having also organized professional headshots for the members in Nov. 2022. Moving forward, GWC will focus on bringing more coding events and CS resources to the GWC members and the UR campus as a whole.
